Easiest class for beginners in WoW Forever
If WoW Forever is your first time in Azeroth, pick a class that forgives mistakes while you learn the game. Our pick is the Hunter, with the Paladin and Warlock close behind. Here is why, which classes are harder at first, and how to start.
The short answer
Hunter is the easiest class for a new player: the pet takes the hits, you shoot from range, and Feign Death gets you out of trouble. Paladin is the easiest melee class, because it heals itself and is very hard to kill. Warlock is easy once you learn to put your damage over time on a target and let the demon do the rest.
All three are also among the fastest classes to level, so you see more of the game sooner.
What makes a class easy
Room for mistakes. A pet that holds mobs, self-heals or an emergency button like Divine Shield means a bad pull does not end in death.
Few buttons to start. Some classes need many abilities in the right order from the first levels. The easy ones work with a handful.
Easy to find a group. Classes that can tank or heal find dungeon groups faster, but those roles also ask more of a new player. Damage dealers are easier to learn first.
Hunter
Send the pet in, shoot, and keep your distance. Your pet holds the mob, so you rarely take damage. Traps and Concussive Shot keep runners away, and Feign Death drops combat when things go wrong.
What to learn: keep your pet alive, pick the right pet for each job and stay at range, because a Hunter in melee is weaker. Start with the Beast Mastery leveling build.
Paladin
Pick a Seal, hit things with a two-handed weapon and heal yourself when you are low. Divine Shield and Lay on Hands save you from almost anything, and in WoW Forever the Paladin finally has the damage to kill things quickly.
What to learn: when to use a Seal and when to use Judgement, and the new Unsealed Wrath talent, which rewards switching Seals. Start with the Retribution leveling build.
Warlock
Put Corruption and Bane of Agony on a mob, let your Voidwalker hold it and finish it with Shadow Bolt or Drain Life. Life Tap turns health back into mana, so you rarely stop to drink.
What to learn: manage your demon and your Soul Shards, and do not break your own Fear. Start with the Affliction leveling build.
Harder classes at first
Warrior: the slowest to level, needs good gear, and every fight depends on Rage. It is great later, but hard as a first class.
Rogue: strong, but it needs to recover health after each fight and has many abilities and finishers to manage. Druid: weak until level 20, then strong, but with several forms and roles to learn.
Mage, Priest and Shaman are in the middle: fine for a beginner who is patient and does not mind drinking between fights.
First steps for any new player
Pick the Normal ruleset if you do not want to be attacked by other players while you learn; you can still join battlegrounds. Choose your faction together with friends, because you can only group with the same faction and ruleset.
Learn your new spells at your class trainer every two levels, spend your talent points from level 10, and pick up a gathering profession early to earn gold. Our leveling guide covers the route to 60, and our race guide helps you pick a race.
