How to make gold in WoW Forever

Gold in WoW Forever pays for training, your mount and raid consumables. The rules changed from Classic: crafting to sell to vendors no longer pays, and gathering got a few twists. Here is what works, from level 1 to the first raids.

The rule that changed: sell to players

Vendor prices for many crafted items were cut, and common and uncommon crafted wands sell for 1 copper. Leveling a profession to sell what you make to an NPC no longer pays.

The money is in what other players need: materials to level their professions, consumables for dungeons and raids, and gear they want to wear. Use the Auction House, and check the price before you post so you do not undersell.

While leveling

Take two gathering professions. Herbalism, Mining and Skinning cost nothing to level and you gather while you quest. In the first weeks everyone is leveling a profession, so basic materials sell fast.

Each creature can only be skinned once before it disappears, so you cannot share a corpse with another skinner, and starting zones have fewer low-level copper veins. Gather as you go instead of waiting for a perfect route.

Keep the gear that drops for other classes and the green and blue items that are Bind on Equip: someone will buy them. Cloth from humanoids sells to tailors, or makes your own bags if you are one.

Upgrades that pay for themselves

Legacy: Bountiful Harvest increases the materials you get from Mining, Herbalism and Skinning. If gathering is your main income, spend points there first.

Racials: Tauren have Cultivation, which gathers a herb without the profession. Food: crafted food gives a small experience bonus, so a cook sells to other players who level.

Class tricks

Rogue: Pick Pocket humanoids before you kill them, and open lockboxes with Pick Lock for yourself and for others. Stealth lets you reach herbs, ore and chests without fighting.

Druid: Travel Form and stealth make it the fastest gatherer. Hunter and Warlock: the pet tanks, so they can farm elites and dungeon rares on their own. Mage: area damage on packs of weak mobs where the terrain allows it.

At 60: what sells

Raid consumables. The first raids open on December 9, and Onyxia's Lair asks for fire resistance. Potions such as Fire Protection Potion and Greater Fire Protection Potion, plus flasks and elixirs, will be in demand in the weeks before and after. Herbalism and Alchemy is the pair that profits most.

Enchants and crafted gear. Raiders pay for enchants and for gear from the new recipes, several of which now drop from dungeon bosses. An enchanter can also use Disenchant on unwanted items and sell the materials.

Attunement and dungeon runs. Everyone heading to Onyxia needs the attunement, which goes through Blackrock Depths and Upper Blackrock Spire. Those runs drop items worth selling, and a group that knows the way finds players willing to join.

What to spend on first

Riding training and your first mount are the biggest early cost, so save for them before buying gear you will replace in a few levels. Paladins and Warlocks get a free mount at level 40.

Spend on what makes you faster: training, bags and your profession. Skip vendor gear that a quest or dungeon will replace soon.

What not to do

Do not buy gold from other websites: it breaks the game's rules, the gold is removed and the account can be banned. Do not level a crafting profession just to sell to vendors, and do not post at a loss to sell faster: wait a day.
