Albion Online gathering guide: resources, tools and safety
The gathering professions, how tier and enchantment change value, which mounts to use and how to survive dangerous zones.
Updated October 2026
The gathering professions
In the open world you gather five kinds of resource, each with its own tool and its refined product:
- Wood (axe), refined into planks.
- Ore (pickaxe), refined into metal bars.
- Fiber (sickle), refined into cloth.
- Hide (skinning knife), refined into leather.
- Stone (stone hammer), refined into stone blocks.
Fishing is a separate activity with its own gear, food, locations and progression. Each resource needs its own tool, so make sure you carry it before heading out.
Tier and enchantment
Resources go from tier 2 to tier 8. From tier 4 up they can appear enchanted, and enchanted resources sell for considerably more than plain ones. The higher the tier, the more valuable the resource and the more dangerous the zone where it usually appears.
To see what each resource is worth, check the Builds Forge **Market**, in the resources and refining category, choosing the tier and enchantment.
Gathering gear
Tools raise gathering speed and let you harvest higher tiers. Profession gear adds yield and carrying capacity, and food helps you gather more per trip.
Gathering also earns fame. That fame improves the profession on the Destiny Board, unlocks higher-tier tools and raises your efficiency with each tier.
Where to gather: risk rises with tier
In general, the more dangerous zones have higher-tier resources and more resource per node. Zone colors (blue, yellow, red and black) decide how likely you are to lose everything when you die: the guide **Albion Online zones** explains each one.
To start, blue and yellow zones are the safest, although they tend to be crowded and lack the highest tiers.
Mounts for gathering
The right mount changes the trip. According to community guides:
- The ox carries far more load, and is the choice for hauling lots of resources at once.
- The Swiftclaw is for escaping anyone who wants to attack you in PvP zones.
- The direwolf is fast and agile for trips through dangerous zones.
Remember a mount can also be lost in red and black zones.
Surviving red and black zones
If you are gathering where you lose everything on death:
- Check the minimap before and during gathering for hostile players.
- Stay near zone exits so you can leave quickly.
- Gather outside peak hours.
- Gather with a group or guild whenever possible.
- Bring only what you can afford to lose.
After gathering: refine and sell
Do not sell everything raw straight away. Refining in the city with the right bonus returns more material and sells for more. The guide **Albion Online royal cities and refining bonuses** tells you where to refine each resource, and the guide **How to make silver in Albion Online** shows how to put it all into a plan.
Final tips
- Specialise in one profession at a time.
- Compare prices between servers and cities before deciding what to gather.
- Do the maths per hour, including travel and repairs.
- Start with cheap gear and only invest more once your income is steady.
