Albion Online zones: blue, yellow, red and black
What you risk in each zone color, how flagging works and how to leave safely.
Updated October 2026
Four colors, four levels of risk
Albion's map is split into zones of four colors, and the color sets the PvP rules and what you lose when you die. Blue and yellow are the safest. In red and black you can lose your gear.
Blue zones: safe
Blue zones are the starter cities and their surroundings. Attacking other players is not allowed, and dying means minimal loss. This is where you start and learn at your own pace.
Yellow zones: low-risk PvP
In yellow zones there is PvP, but losing a fight does not mean losing your gear: you are knocked down and your equipment takes wear, but it stays with you. To attack someone you need to be flagged hostile.
Red zones: you lose everything
In red zones, whoever dies drops the equipment they are wearing and their inventory. Attacking players in these zones costs the attacker reputation. Go in with gear you can afford to lose and, preferably, with a group.
Black zones: lawless
Black zones are also full-loot PvP. The difference from red is mostly social and in reputation rules, and sources differ on some details, so check the current rules in game. This is where the best resources and the highest-fame dungeons are, and also the biggest risks. Never go alone into black zones with gear you cannot afford to lose.
Flagging
Flagging decides whether you can attack, not whether you can be attacked. Being unflagged is not a shield: in yellow zones, a flagged player can knock down anyone, including someone who is not flagged.
Resources and mobs by zone
The more dangerous the zone, the better the resource quality tends to be and the tougher the mobs, with more resource per node in the riskiest zones. Exact numbers vary between sources, so treat them as approximate.
Advice for new players
- Stay in blue zones until you have tier 4 gear.
- Practise in yellow zones with gear you can replace.
- Do not enter red zones without a group.
- Never enter black zones alone.
Checklist before leaving a safe zone
- Are you carrying only what you can afford to lose?
- Do you know where the exits and escape points are?
- Did you pick a suitable mount?
- Did you check the minimap for hostile players?
- Do you have a plan if the road back is blocked?
